SURF CAMPS

This year we have decided to go with three hours per day instead of the usual four hours, as our insurance rates have skyrocketed, even though there has never been a claim, and the City of Encinitas is currently deciding on how much to charge us for use of their beach and city services.  So, in order to keep from raising our rates we feel that by shortening the day is a better alternative.  This way we can still offer the GREATEST SHOW ON SURF with lunch, video sessions, awards, t-shirt, DVD's and prizes and the best well trained crew of ADULT instructors at any beach anywhere in the world. We found that 4 hour sessions per day led to exhaustion and some very burned out guests by the end of Wednesday afternoon. We thought we would make it better.

The Big Kahuna has redesigned the way the camps will operate this year.  After listening to or clients' needs and desires we has decided to break up the one size fits all theory of surfing instruction.  In the summer of 2009 you will now have five (5) surf class options to select from. Our two mainstays, Menehune ages 11 and under camp, and the Jr. Kahuna camps ages 12 and up will be running as in all our prior summer seasons.  However, NEW THIS YEAR, we will be premiering three (3) new surf camps:  ‘the over the hill camp’ for the 30 something's and older guests, ‘our advanced long board camp’ and or ‘team Kahuna camp’. We look forward to a great summer ahead and hope to see you in one of our five select surf programs soon.

TEAM KAHUNA SURF CAMP

  This camp is for short board surfers who already have their own equipment and have been surfing for at least two years.  Our goal is to make you a ‘better’ surfer than you already are. If you would like to learn new maneuvers, cleaning up your style, learning how to catch more waves or how to compete at a higher level this camp is FOR YOU. Work personally with Kahuna Bob who has coached Surf Teams for 18 years and currently works as Coach for the Vikings Surf Team in Carlsbad.  Video analysis, coaching and conditioning are all a part of this highly informative and tiring week. A DVD will also be supplied to each camper at the end of the week.

OVER THE HILL SURF CAMP

  In 2009 we will be launching our ‘over the hill’ surf camp specially designed for those of us who are no longer considered spring chickens.  You will need to have circled the sun over 30 times to be eligible to join in on the fun that this camp will offer. We will meet for 2 hours per day and work at a slower pace with our most senior instructors running the show.  Fewer repetitions with more instruction will be the key focus during these camps so, don’t let life pass you by get on board and give it a try. All equipment will also be supplied; video analysis, priceless tips, a Kahuna Bob t-shirt and free lunch at the Sub Palace mid week are all coming at you as well as your own DVD  that will prove you can surf.   Are you kidding me?  And you will get to do this at Beacons? Advanced Long board Camp

  The art of long boarding is dissected from nose-riding and drop knee turns to today’s radical explosive on rail charging styles.  Video analysis will help those overcome their weaknesses and improve your abilities and style.  Learn the tricks of the trade from longtime competitive surfer Kahuna Bob Edwards, the 2008 Professional Longboard Association Amateur Champion.  Also on staff for this camp will be Rusty Edwards who currently leads all division 3 and 4 Long boarders in San Diego County this year.  Have your equipment and your style checked out so you can improve quickly and start surfing smarter and safer. This camp will be intended for surfers who have been on board or at least been surfing for two years and are ready to take it to the next level.
